Why Soft Stands Are Different

We’ve reimagined what a French horn stand can be.  Most traditional designs rely on the outdated “display plate” method—balancing the horn on just three small contact points.  In many cases, the total support area is less than half a square inch, concentrating the instrument’s weight into a tiny space.  This can lead to dents, scratches, and unstable placement.

Our stands gently cradle your horn with over 25 square inches of plush, soft polar fleece fabric.  That’s more than 50 times the support area of standard stands—dramatically reducing pressure on your instrument.  When used correctly, it’s virtually impossible to dent your horn with a Soft Stand.

Another common problem with traditional stands is the unpredictability of the top contact point—it often rests against a delicate slide, making placement tricky and risky.  A small bump can bend a slide—or worse, knock the horn right out of the stand. Soft Stands eliminate this risk by providing a secure, stable, and cushioned fit every time.

One of the most praised features?  How easy it is to use.   Simply set the horn in the stand—no need to rotate or carefully align contact points.  There’s no risk of damaging the bell flare, and it accommodates horns with hand straps or duck’s feet with no issue.  It’s especially handy during quick music changes or outdoor performances, when you need both hands for wind clips or sheet music.

Every Soft Stand is handcrafted with care and attention to detail.  The sling is made from durable, pill-resistant black polar fleece, lined with soft, closed-cell foam to cushion the top and interior surfaces of the upper rails—protecting your horn from dents and scratches.

The top rails and feet are made from your choice of solid red oak or walnut, giving each stand a unique and elegant look.  Nylon gliders on the feet help protect flooring and ensure smooth placement.

The vertical legs are crafted from satin-finished anodized aluminum tubing, combining strength with a sleek, modern appearance. Inside each leg, an elastic bungee cord system keeps the stand securely assembled during use.

With just a little practice, the stand breaks down quickly into a compact 4" x 12" bundle, making it easy to carry and store.  An attractive nylon storage bag is included.

Despite its sturdy construction, the Soft Stand weighs just 2.5 pounds—lighter than many stands originally designed for guitars but repurposed for horns, such as those from Koenig & Meyer.

Soft Stands are carefully engineered to accommodate all standard double and triple horn models.  We've successfully tested our stands with instruments from top makers, including Schmid, Alexander, Paxman, Hill, Conn, Rauch, Hoyer, Finke, Holton, Kruspe, Yamaha, Patterson, and Lewis.

If you're unsure whether your horn will fit, simply measure the thickness of the corpus.  If it exceeds 4.0 inches (10 cm), you may need a custom set of wider feet to ensure a proper fit.  We’re happy to provide these at no additional cost—just contact us and we’ll make sure your stand is perfectly matched to your horn.
